Patiala News:Chairman Tejinder Mehta Plants 5,801st Sapling
• Plantation drive of 5,800 saplings dedicated to Jan Seva Diwas completed
• Mega blood donation camp to be organised at SDKs Bhawan on August 16
• Initiative to celebrate Arvind Kejriwal’s 58th birthday
Patiala: The plantation drive of 5,800 saplings, organised as part of the Jan Seva Diwas celebrations to mark the 58th birthday of Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor and public servant Arvind Kejriwal on August 16, was completed today at Goat Farm, Bir Kullemajra. On the occasion, Chairman of the District Planning Committee, Patiala, Tejinder Mehta, planted the 5,801st sapling—a Triveni of Neem, Peepal and Banyan—with his own hands.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Chairman Tejinder Mehta said that the plantation of 5,800 saplings, the first initiative under Jan Seva Diwas, had been successfully completed. He expressed gratitude to the Animal Husbandry Department and the Forest Department for their support in making the campaign a success. He said that a mega blood donation camp would now be organised at SDKs Bhawan on August 16, from 9 am to 3 pm, as part of the Jan Seva Diwas celebrations. The camp will be dedicated to children suffering from thalassemia.
In addition, 5,800 fruit-bearing and shade-giving saplings will be distributed. An awareness and registration campaign for eye donation and organ donation will also be organised. Mr. Mehta appealed to the people of Patiala to participate in the Jan Seva Diwas programme, donate blood, become part of the sapling distribution drive and contribute to the service of humanity by registering for eye and organ donation.
Chairman Mehta said that Mr. Kejriwal had always kept the welfare of common people and public service at the centre of his vision and politics. He said the decision to celebrate his birthday as Jan Seva Diwas was aimed at taking forward this vision and strengthening the spirit of serving humanity, protecting the environment and fulfilling one’s responsibility towards society.
