Samsung Solve for Tomorrow

Samsung has launched the fourth edition of its Solve for Tomorrow initiative, a nationwide contest for students to create innovative solutions to address some of society’s most pressing challenges by leveraging technology. Students in the 14-22 age group can submit their solutions across four themes: AI for a Safer, Smarter, and Inclusive Bharat; Future of Health, Hygiene, and Well-being in India; Social change through Sports and Tech for Education and Better Futures; and Environmental Sustainability via Technology. Admissions and scholarships

The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, the U.K., has launched a new M.Sc. Secondary Education programme, designed to prepare aspiring secondary school teachers looking to teach Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Computing Science. Graduates of the programme will be eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and register with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

Eligibility: Degree awarded by a recognised higher education institution in the U.K. or equivalent from an international institution that includes minimum 80 credits in the relevant subject. Applicants must demonstrate a strong and appropriate knowledge of the discipline.

Events

K.J. Somaiya School and College of Nursing hosted the Innovation Contest on April 21, 2025, in collaboration with the Trained Nurses Association of India-Mumbai City. The theme was Innovations in Health: Need of an Era and the contest showcased pioneering healthcare solutions developed by students across Maharashtra. Over 40 projects were submitted from nursing institutions across the state and winners were selected under three categories: B.Sc. Nursing, Professional Nursing, and General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM). The top 10 projects were selected for further development and support under the Research Innovation Incubation Design Labs (RIIDL) at Somaiya Vidyavihar University.

Woxsen University hosted the Design Vanguard 2025 on the theme Tomorrow by Design: Nurturing Future Creators, which saw participation from students, industry leaders, and design enthusiasts. The event featured student projects from various design disciplines, including wearable innovation, immersive realities, sustainable environments, future mobility, and gamified learning. These projects were displayed across five curated themes. The guests at the event were Shayak Sen, Head of Design, Myntra; P. Venkat Srikanth, Head, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad; Dr. K. Veera Brahmam, Director, Advanced Lab-DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Government of India and Sabu Cyril, designer.

The Department of Community Medicine at NIIMS Medical College and Hospital organised an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan initiative. Over 300 students pledged to stay Nasha Mukt and to help individuals battling substance abuse. Students held a walkathon across the campus.

CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT), Bengaluru, hosted a Techno-Meet on Sustainability that showcased about 50 innovative projects developed by students and faculty members. students from various schools and colleges engaged with the innovators of projects such as an Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Portable ECG Monitor for real-time heart analysis; EcoFilament, a solution transforming PET waste into sustainable 3D printing filament; a Gesture-Controlled Robot for military applications; an Oil Spill Detection System using satellite imagery, among others.

CyberPeace Foundation under the aegis of United Service Institution (USI) of India hosted the USIMUN-2025, a Model United Nations conference. Young delegates participated in dialogues on global diplomacy and emerging digital threats such as misinformation and deepfakes.

The Salaam Bombay Foundation presented a Marathi play performed by students from BMC and government schools, belonging to the Repertory Company of the Foundation in an effort to demonstrate the transformative power of arts education for young people.

The University of Leeds has launched a guaranteed industry consulting project for taught Master’s students enrolling from the 2025/26 academic year to equip them with real-world, global experience and professional skills employers. The Leeds Global Industry Programme (GIP) ensures that each student will work in a small diverse teams to tackle genuine industry challenges presented by UK or international organisations.

XLRI Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), hosted the Business-Biodiversity Conclave to promote the integration of biodiversity into business strategies. Shailaja Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Jharkhand State Biodiversity Board, delivered the keynote address. Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, gave a special address.

The Institute of Management StudiesNoida organised Management Nexus, an inter-collegiate event to enhance students’ leadership, creativity, and innovative thinking skills. More than 300 students from colleges in Delhi-NCR participated in activities like such as Reel Making, Fireless Cooking, Business Quiz, Green Craft, Canvas of Change, Quirky Fashion, and Rhythmic Reverie.

AISECT organised the fourth edition of the Samarth Bharat Conclave on the theme The Role of Skill Development, Financial Inclusion, and Social Entrepreneurship in Building a Developed India and signed several MoUs for collaborations on education and teacher training programmes.

Biranchi Panda, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and research scholars Dhrutiman Dey, and Yash Shukla from IIT Guwahati along with Rajan Rawal from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, studied the effect of lattice-patterned 3D-printed concrete walls on a building’s thermal performance. Coursera has launched the India Edition of the Micro Credentials Impact Report 2025. Key insights are: one in three Indian students have earned a micro-credential; the likelihood of enrolling in a degree programme jumps to 91% when micro-credentials are offered and rises further when micro-credentials are credit-bearing or teach GenAI skills and 86% believe earning a micro-credential will help them succeed on the job.

Collaborations

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has signed an MoU with Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar, to co-develop educational content, joint certifications and workshops in areas like Forensic Accounting, Cybersecurity, Systems Audit, Blockchain, Big Data and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). ICAI has also renewed its MoU with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) to develop a robust national ecosystem for forensic investigation and financial crime detection.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has signed an MoU with Quantum AI Global to collaborate on research and development in Quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. The agreement outlines joint efforts in several frontier areas including quantum communication, quantum internet, quantum simulations, quantum memory, and quantum-safe computing. The partnership is expected to support advanced research initiatives and contribute to the development of next-generation computing technologies.

Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals has entered into a MoA with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to bridge the gap between academia and industry and jointly develop advanced, sustainable healthcare solutions.

DEVI Sansthan has signed an MoU with the Government of Jharkhand to implement its Accelerated Learning for All (ALfA) programme in eight government-supported schools across districts in the Ranchi division to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills among children.

Kuhoo Finance has entered into a partnership with Universal AI University to integrate education financing directly into the university’s admission process so that eligible students receive instant loan eligibility decisions while submitting their academic applications.

Epsilon in collaboration with Tufts University will launch Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute at the School of Engineering at Tufts to work towards advanced innovations in battery materials and promote collaboration between academia and industry.

Students from Lovely Professional University secured 13 top positions at IIT Mandi’s Xpecto’25 in events such as Pitch Perfect, Sky Break model rocket competition, surface boat racing, Wall Maze Solver robotics challenge, Robo Soccer and RC MC Mania, a remote-controlled car race.

Sakina Bharmal, who teaches Global Perspectives at the Cambridge IGCSE and AS Level has been declared the regional winner of the 2025 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards in South Asia. This award is given by the International Education group at Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

Team Rasna Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, was the winner of NEWME Campus Challenge, a fashion-tech hackathon conducted by NEWME. Over 5,000 teams from colleges such as NIFT, SRCC, NMIMS, Gargi College, Christ University, Chandigarh University and St. Xavier’s participated in the event. Team Consulting Sharks and Team Derivatives from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies were the first and second runners-up respectively.

C.K. College of Engineering and Technology has been awarded Autonomous Status by the University Grants Commission for 10 years from 2025 to 2035, allowing the institution to independently design curriculum, introduce industry-aligned courses, emerging technology modules, and implement flexible real-world pedagogy. The college also announced upcoming collaborations with over 15 leading industry partners to provide students with real-world, hands-on learning experiences.

Gowripriya Nair and Arathi Venu, Ph.D. scholars from the Department of Hepatology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences won the first and third prize respectively for an oral presentation of their original research papers at the sixth National Conference on Critical Care and Infections in Liver Diseases (CCILBS 2025), organised by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies was ranked 23rd in India in the Times Higher Education rankings released recently while Shoolini University was ranked 146th in Asia.

Purbayon Sarkar, a Class 12 student from South Point High School, Kolkata, was declared winner of the fifth edition of HPE CodeWars. Jayden Jeswin Raj, Class 12 student from Vels Vidyashram, Chennai, was the first-runner up and Samik Goyal, a Class 10 student of DAV Public School, Patiala, was the second runner-up.
