Birth Certificate to Serve as a Valid Document for Tasks like Education Admission, Passport, and More
NEW-DELHI: Starting October 1, 2023, the amended law will empower the use of a birth certificate as a valid document for a variety of official purposes. This progressive change allows individuals to utilize their birth certificate for tasks such as educational institution admissions, driving license applications, obtaining an Aadhaar card or passport, and marriage registration.
The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023, which received approval during the last monsoon session of Parliament and was subsequently assented to by President Droupadi Murmu on August 11, aims to streamline and enhance the utility of birth certificates.
Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mritunjay Kumar Narayan issued a notification specifying that the provisions of the Act will officially take effect from October 1, 2023. The implementation of this Act signifies a pivotal step towards simplifying administrative procedures and ensuring greater accessibility and convenience for citizens in availing essential services.
Previously, birth certificates primarily served as proof of birth, but this amendment recognizes its value for a broader spectrum of official tasks, positively impacting the ease of access to fundamental services for individuals across the country.
