Climate festival
Thefourth edition of Azim Premji University’s annual climate festival Coasts and Oceans of Life is open to the public at its campus till November 8.

What it entails: Visitors can explore student research exhibits on marine biodiversity and climate change, immersive installations, storytelling and film sessions, and participate in interactive workshops led by scientists, artists, educators, and community practitioners from across the country.

BITS Design School has opened admissions for its third cohort of the four-year, fully residential Bachelor of Design (Honours) programme.
Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent in any stream from any recognised board of education, with minimum 45% (appearing or passed). Applicants can qualify through any of the following exams: NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims, UCEED, or the BITS Design Aptitude Test (BITSDAT), which will be conducted from March 31 to April 5.

Researchers from NIT-Rourkela have designed an intelligent hybrid microgrid that integrates solar, wind, and battery power to provide uninterrupted electricity to off-grid rural areas. Their work was published in the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications. Another team from this institute, in collaboration with the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (Turkey), co-authored a study on how digital tools and renewable energy can boost agricultural productivity and sustainability in developing countries. A paper was published in Technology Analysis and Strategic Management.
Lovely Professional University has received ₹80 lakh research grant from the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Education, Government of India, for a four-year study on carbon credit adoption in Punjab and Haryana agriculture, focusing on farmers’ readiness and the mitigation potential of sustainable practices.
Eliza Khwairakpam, researcher, Nagaland University, found that land-use changes— especially agriculture, settlements, and shifting cultivation—are degrading the water quality of rivers feeding Loktak Lake in Manipur, threatening its biodiversity and local livelihoods. The study was published in the International Journal of Environment and Pollution.
AM Jain College, in collaboration with the Tamil Development Board, University of Madras, and Sandhya Publications, organised an international conference on Multidisciplinary Tamil Education and Scientific Development to promote integrating science, technology, and AI into Tamil education. Twenty-five Tamil scholars worldwide participated.

Research
The GMAC 2025 Application Trends Survey reports a seven percent increase in graduate management applications, driven by growth in Asia and Europe (excluding the U.K.), while the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. saw declines.
According to ApplyBoard’s report, Canada’s approval of new post-secondary international student visas has fallen to its lowest level in a decade, showing a greater decline than during the COVID-19 shutdown. Key findings include how post-secondary study permit approvals have dropped more than 60% year-over-year and students from India, the Philippines, and many African countries continue to face low approval rates, among others.
Leap, a study-abroad platform reports that Indian students’ interest in AI, Data Science, and Analytics courses abroad has grown five-fold since 2021, doubling in the past year, while the demand for MSc Management has also doubled year-on-year. Germany and Ireland saw the fastest growth in popularity, and UAE and New Zealand experienced a three-fold increase in demand between Q1 and Q2 of 2025.

Scientists from TCG CREST’s Centre for Quantum Engineering, Research and Education and Institute for Advancing Intelligence — comprising Peniel Bertrand Tsemo, Akshaya Jayashankar, K.
