IIT Ropar has introduced a revamped undergraduate engineering curriculum with a flexible, student-driven framework that will take effect from the academic session 2026-27. Under the new B.Tech. Curriculum 2026, students will complete most of their compulsory core courses by the end of the fifth semester. The remaining three semesters will be largely free for advanced electives, internships, research projects, start-up work and interdisciplinary exploration. Students can draw on up to 30 credits of open electives, allowing them to study subjects well outside their parent discipline. The four-year programme will carry a total of 160 credits. Admissions under the new curriculum will begin in the academic year 2026-27.
